I hesitate to write a recommendation for ISC for purely selfish reasons. Having used them for many years, we consider them our best kept business secret.
However, in the interest of the “public good”, I consented to write this. ICS is the equivalent of an irreplaceable family doctor, only in a business capacity. They know everything about the “health” of our businesses, the legal risk factors we face, our business philosophy, and they play a key role in helping steer us safely to where we want to go.
Having them on retainer means that we can run things past them for counsel on the fly, without having to bring them up to speed. I’ve made a few seemingly innocuous decisions without running it past them, and lived to regret this independence. Now, we fire off emails to them anytime we aren’t 100% sure of the legal risks involved in a decision. From contracts, leases, wording of offers, employee actions, business expansion, patents, entity and estate planning, succession, and the list goes on and on. They even work proactively with our accounting firm so that each decision is vetted quickly from all angles, and their response time to our questions is lightning fast.
In a nutshell, they function as our in-house business counselors on a myriad of topics, and they always find a way to add to the equation of a decision. And they have a knack for not only warning us away from danger, but also guiding us to creative alternatives that invariably result in a better decision. I definitely sleep better at night.
